Aubrey's 15 Month Dr's Appointment

December 15, 2009

Aubrey had her 15 month's doctor's appointment today. Time is flying by. Nothing much to report expect that she slowed down the growing tall while maintaining her girth - 80th percentile for height (31") and 90th percentile for weight(26.5lbs). To summarize - she's healthy might have to put her on the stretchers but we will wait for her 18 month appointment to make that decision.

Here's the scary part - our next appointment will be the first appointment for No 2. So we will be taking two to the doctors from now on. LA is at 28 weeks - 12 weeks to go.

Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

LA, Aubrey and I loaded up in the car to establish a new family tradition and find the perfect Christmas tree to cut down, sorry Al Gore. This year I caved into the pressure and decided that we would not purchase a tree from the “gas” station again this year – ask LA about getting our tree last year, if you want the details about the “gas” station tree. My only stipulation was that it could not be a *&$^ pine tree.

There is only one way to start a family tradition especially if it’s a Saturday and that is at Bojangles eating a country ham biscuit and drinking sweet tea – Christmas tree shopping southern redneck style. While in the drive through at Bojangles, we come up with Plan B just in case Plan A doesn’t work out or if it starts raining. Plan B is to purchase a tree from the lot next to Bojangles. We picked out two nice trees while sitting in line. Actually, to me it seemed like a sign not to go cut a tree down but we went to Ridgeville away – actually Givhans to find Tomlinson’s Tree Farm.

I had gotten directions from Google and knew the street we were looking for but I wasn’t expecting it to be a one lane paved road between two trailers and fenced in animals. I will admit it; I gave LA the “what in the heck have you gotten me into” look while she laughed at me (she was uncertain herself). I know never judge a book by its cover but I don’t even know if this book had a cover. After almost wrecking head on with a car coming down the road on a corner, we found the tree farm. The parking lot was mud bog. We were the only ones there and a nice man met us and give us the details – here’s a hand saw, find a tree cut in down, pay me. So we went off searching for our tree – Aubrey in one direction and us in another. Almost forgot that it was in the 40s and the wind was blowing which makes it a little chilly. The tree at Bojangles was looking better every minute we were outside. After looking at all the trees and picking up Aubrey off the ground a couple of times, we found our tree - The biggest one on the lot which means lots of sawing for daddy. I got on my hands and knees on the wet ground and started sawing. The funny thing is Aubrey started pulling at my pants and shirt to get me from under the tree. For some reason, she didn’t like daddy being under the tree. After a lot of sawing, multiple breaks and a few mumbled comments, I yelled “timber” as it fell and we had us a nice Leyland Cyprus – a tree that is quickly “becoming the Christmas tree of the South”. It was about 11 feet or taller if you count the scraggly branches at the top which thank goodness the owner didn’t charge us for. To put this tree in perspective, it is bigger than the Town of Summerville’s new tree. If something happens to their tree, we’ve got a backup plan. The tree is very pretty with the lights and if you want to see it you can ride by and see it through the window at night or call to arrange a private showing (which will require a preapproved Christmas treat as admission) give me a call, I'm hungry.

It was a fun time, a little chilly which if you ever watch the video and notice the camera shaking that was LA shivering from being cold. Hopefully, we will continue this tradition for at least a few more years and maybe it will be warmer next year. Another plus for next year is that mommy can help with the sawing because she won’t be pregnant.

I'm Back

I’m back blogging.

The reasons I am back are multiple – Equality - tired of everyone telling me you did it for Aubrey and No. 2 will hold that against you for the rest of my life (talk about a putting a burden on me..thanks friends), No. 2 saying “You did this for Aubrey but I didn’t get anything” (then followed by storming off, stomping feet and/or slamming a door). I actually thought it was going to be a good lesson for No. 2 about "life isn’t fair, deal with it” and a way for us to agree on one thing in the middle school years when we reply “you're right mom and I don’t love you, we had you so we can treat you unfairly”; It wasn’t anything new, we had done this one time. I already had everything documented from the first time and there wasn’t really anything new happening and it seemed useless to retell the same stories - that was true until yesterday at the doctor’s office – you will have to read all of this post to find out. There are a few more reasons but we will save those for later…

The blog about our first baby will be merged at some point with this blog. This blog will contain information about KC, LA, KC and LA, Aubrey, No.2 and friends and family.

Not sure what direction this blog will take but stick around for the ride and if you’ve got 15 minutes to waste a couple times a week check back and see what’s been happening with us.

How Did We Get To This Point

Occasionally, during the first part of the year, we had talked about if we were ready for another child. Aubrey had been very low maintenance and if it was this easy why not have another one, two or three more. We couldn’t figure out why everyone was complaining about how hard it was and that they weren’t getting any sleep. We always got looks when we told them Aubrey started sleeping through the night at 2 months and went to bed at 7pm. Anyway, we had conversations about No. 2 randomly over the next few months and we finally decided to start “trying”. Very, Very soon after that LA came to me and told me “I am pregnant”. I told her she was crazy (see first blog) and she continued to assure me that “she knew, my body is telling me” and I kept telling her “Yeah, right”. I told her it wasn’t possible because she was on antibiotics for her cold. After a couple of weeks, she took the test and it came back positive. I continued to tell her that it was possible for a false positive and she kept assuring me that she was pregnant. When we went to the doctor, the first words out of her mouth were “Back so soon…congratulations”. Just like the last time still no physical proof except a bag full of crap and the doctor and my wife verbally telling me "She's pregnant". I asked the doctor how this could be possible since LA was on antibiotics and she looked at me like I was crazy. I thought it was a valid question. I am going to have to research that. I guess that will be a teachable moment for our kids when they read this. I am sure no one that is reading this blog is old enough to remember the EF Hutton commercials…”When EF Hutton talks everybody listens”. I don’t know if we have a direct connection to God but No. 2 was almost an immaculate conception. We talked, we tried, we’re pregnant (LA’s pregnant). Not sure what God has planned but he must have needed him or her pretty quickly or realized that their father was and will be an old goat and allowed it to happen quickly. We realize that we are blessed beyond measure to be able to have No. 2 even if it was a little quicker that we thought it would happen.

Doctor’s Appointment
27 Weeks
December 10, 2009

We meet with the new doctor today that they added to the practice since Aubrey was born. She was fine, nothing special – I need to teach a class at medical school on bedside manner. No.2’s heart beat is 147bpm and everything looks good. LA is measuring on schedule 27”.

We haven’t had many new or funny experiences at the doctor’s office with anything this pregnancy until yesterday’s visit. LA went back and they weighed her and I took Aubrey to the room to wait on LA. I could hear LA talking but couldn’t understand what she was saying. When she got to the room, she was laughing. The nurse told her she needed to re-weigh her to make sure she wrote it down right the first time. LA told the nurse “You’re calling be fat?”. The nurse reweighed her and she wrote down the correct weight the first time. So the funny thing was the 1st trimester LA lost weight and they told her to put it back on by our last appointment and she did. Evidently the past 4 weeks, she put a few extra pounds but her weight gain is fine. Another reason to start blogging finally happened at 7 months.

What we know:
*No.2 is due March 10, 2010
*Aubrey will be 18 months older than No. 2 and one year apart in school (unless one of them get my genes for school)
*We didn’t find out the sex (although LA cheated at the ultrasound and thinks were having a boy)
*We have a boy and girl name picked out (not telling either one, don’t ask, and we don’t need any suggestions)
*We both are extremely tired and are getting plenty of rest on the sofa each night “watching tv”
*We are questioning our decision to have them so close since Aubrey became a whirlwind at 11 months and hasn’t slowed down yet, might should have waited a couple of months
*March 10, 2012 target date to stop purchasing diapers (unless we decide to have No 3)
*I don’t know how many more babies we can have – I put on weight during pregnancy but don’t lose it after the pregnancy
*The heart rate has been consistent or higher than Aubrey’s – most recently 147bpm for those that want to predict boy or girl – it is a girl
*The Chinese Birth Calendar predicts a boy. It was correct with Aubrey.
*We don’t care if it is a boy or girl! Not going to be disappointed either way (We actually would like another girl – no need to add a different model into the mix. We have 15 months of experience with the girl model but aren’t going to be disappointed with a boy.
*We can’t keep up with how far along LA is. We were wrong at every appointment except yesterday – 27 weeks (LA has a thing on the internet updating her now)

Aubrey

Aubrey loves a book. Every morning, just after waking up we read a book together. It is one of the highlights of my day. She picks out the book and brings it back to me to read to her. I am sure this is a good thing but I wonder how many times I am going to have to read the same book to her before she finally catches on – Itsy Bitsy Spider, Three Little Pigs, Hungry Caterpillar, 10 Lady Bugs, My First Words, Nursery Rhymes…etc I am also pretty good at children’s tunes – Old MacDonald, I’m An Alligator and a bunch I don’t know the name.

She is getting close to saying a few words other than the words that start with d that she has been saying for awhile daddy, doooog, duc (duck), down (we haven’t heard this word yet but the ladies at school tell us she is saying it). She gets an occasional mommy in there and she is saying something that sounds exactly like a four letter work for poop. Awesome, 15 months and she already is going to get her mouth washed out with soap – public daycare, what are parents teaching their kids today?
